Project Feature: Special Lights X Thodey Design
Earlier this year we had the pleasure of being asked to supply lighting for Sydney husband & wife team Thodey Design for their small but mighty Ultimo Courtyard House project.
In collaboration with the effortless muscle over at local builders Francis Oliver, we are more than proud to be able to share this gem with you. Everything about this build embodies Australian architecture and what a great job the team did on their choice and execution of lighting styles. Having selected decorative beauties such as the Emition pendant light which marries with the linear architectural design, to the robust and industrial Axis track lighting that guide the way to the quaint courtyard where our Roger Pradier Duo outdoor lights up the exterior space. Collaborating with Architects and Designers is what drives us here at Special Lights because we love seeing how you use our products in various ways across multiple design styles. With the Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile 2019 wrapping up a couple of weeks ago, our Director had the pleasure of attending the event and viewing all that the design and lighting world had to offer for 2019.
Shapes and colour seemed to be the big theme this year for lighting, with Masiero paying homage to Memphis style with pops of colour on metallic forms while Bover kept their designs delicate, playful & of course nature inspired. Ideal Lux & Studio Italia Design brought their futuristic flair to the table while Ebb & Flow are set to offer us even more stunning glass and crystal options within their range. We cannot wait to show you what we have set to arrive in store in the coming months. Stay tuned!

Inspired by the Japanese tea pot – Belly.
The relationship between Nordic and Japanese design is a close one. Both styles display an affection for simple expression using honest materials. In giving shape to the Belly pendant Bønnelycke mdd drew inspiration from the traditional Japanese tea pot. If you look closely you will see clear references to the Japanese cast iron stove or the Nordic archetypal sleigh bell. With its dominantly artisanal look Belly combines weightlessness of shape with lightness of suspension. Belly is available now in 3 sizes and in the beauty of black. Send us an enquiry today or view the belly range at our showroom or by clicking here.
